artists get royalties whenever there music is plays in a public place for example in a shop or in a cinema lounge or anywhere in public where people will hear it. They are played for their songs being played in public through royalties. Because of royalties, whenever you cover other people’s songs the person who owns the song will receive royalties from PRS. It is important that here is royalties in the music industry so that people earn money when they deserve it because the music industry can be hard to earn money in.
If there were no royalties in the music industry then the artists in the industry would not get the money from there music that they deserve and the song righters wouldn’t get paid and the same goes for the music production companies. If there was no royalties system in place then the only real way that musicians could make money would be from performing and that would be so hard to do. Licencing is very important in the music industry too. Because without licencing there would be no limit and no restrictions to who could play other peoples songs in public and to who owns the licenses to the songs so who should be sitting at home earning money from royalties.
