Recording my song - Hide Away
Audio capture / Recording audio files
The instruments recorded and the microphones I used
As you can see in the picture I have taken the front of the piano. The reason I did this is so that I would have the freedom to move my microphones around and make sure that I get as good as possible sound. It also enables me to get the microphones closer to the strings on the piano so I will be hopefully getting a more natural sound.
The microphones I used on the piano were very effective in the end. Both the microphones that used are condenser microphones. I used a large diaphragm condenser microphone to pick up the lower end, so the right had was picked up by that microphone. Then the higher stuff on the right hand was picked up by a CS 1000 condenser microphone. This is a directional microphone, so it picks up whatever the microphone is pointed at more or less. The picture to the left of this paragraph is a picture of how I miked up the glockenspiel. I used the large diaphragm condencer and the pencil microphone (also a condenser). Here is a picture of the microphones that we used to pick up the vocals. As you can see in the picture there is the standard large diaphragm condenser microphone that we use usually to record the vocals. I recorded this with cam Ferguson, Cam had the ide of running a second microphone through the valves on the mixing desk to try and add a bit more warmth to the vocals. After we recorded using both of the microphones we decided that it did not need to use it because the difference that it made was miniscule. |
