Design of publicity materials for my marketing campaign
For our marketing campaign, myself and jasper found a local pub that regularly putts on live acoustic evenings. The Town Arms is a pub in Wallingford and it is very well knows for having very successfully acoustic nights. I have attended one of the acoustic evening there before and there was a great turn out. So we went to the venue and asked if the would be interested in letting us book the acts and do the marketing for it.
Designing our poster's
|
Poster for Wallingford acoustic eveningWe designed a poster for the event ans you can see on the left of this paragraph. The poster was made for an acoustic evening. For that reason we decided that the thyme of this poster needs to show that. We needed to poster to look like it was for an acoustic night so that we attract the right crowd. There is already a big crowd of people who go down to the acoustic nights at the pub once a month so we were trying to grab there attention with this poster.
The reason that we decided putting a ukilali on the side of the poster is that it is known for being a very quiet gentile instrument. When you see a ukilali, you automaticly think quiet acoustic, not cold. The colour of the ukilali is bright green because it stands out to you instantly when on that cream background. The colour green represent nature. A pure natural sound. We also put a lot of thought into the font that we used for the poster. It was important that we didn't chose the wrong font because it could attract the wrong crowd. We chose a font that had a very gentile soft feel. The reason that we did this is because if we did the wrong font, for example a big black spiky font then there is a good chance that we would attract the a heavy metal crowd and that is not what you want for an acoustic night. |
Over all I think that this poster has been very successful because it dose give of the correct image that we were trying to give of. It dose defiantly make you think of acoustic night when you see it. I know that it has been very successful because on our online marketing on Facebook, we have seen a very good response on the page that has this poster. Almost 50 people are going to the acoustic night who have said there going to go.
Poster for gig in Henley
The poster below is a poster that jasper and I made for a gig we put on in Henley with the rest of our class as a part of our coursework. The gig was held in the Queen Victoria Pub in Henley. We put up a lot of these posters around collage and in the end we had a very good turn out.
On this poster we wanted it to be a colour that stood out to people who walked past. The vast majority of our target audience were people who study at Henley collage. This meant that we put up a lot of posters around Henley collage.
We did this event a lot before we did the event in Wallingford and we learned a lot from making this poster. Even though the end result of the gig was better than we ever could have asked for. We had an amazing turn out and we had a very successful night. Looking back though there were some thing that I would have changed on the poster. I would have tried to make it a little bit more simple so that it catches peoples eye and maybe even tried to put a image on there and have less words. There were things that did work very well on this poster though. Things like how the writing is bright yellow so it stands out. Because everybody loves free things. and how it is clear that it is for charity and for a good cause. Another thing that was very successful is that it was very clear who the artists were. |
Distribution of of publicity materials
Online
We distributed our publicity materials in various of different ways. One of the ways that we did it was through social media. We got as many people online to see our poster and invited a lot of people to come down and watch the live music for free. We had a very good response on our Facebook page and a lot of people did click "going" on the page witch is always a good thing. Below i have taken some screenshots of the Facebook page for you to see. |
As well as using social media we also printed of our posters. Because the vast majority of our target audience were people who attended Henley collage. We did put up a lot of posters around Henley town and or cores around Henley collage. I have made a short list of some of the places that we put up our posters:
The grove, records shop,
Oxfam books,
Oxfam,
Cancer Research,
Starbucks

We used social media the same on the gig we put up in walling ford. We invited a lot of people to it and it was very successful. I have taken the time to get the screenshot of the Facebook page. As you can see on the event there are quite a lot of people attending.
There are 46 people going on the facebook group and a further 21 people who have said maybe. We invited over 700 people on the Facebook event. |
We also put up posters for this around Wallingford. We put them up in the pub itself obviously so that the regulars who go in the pub a lot know when the event is happening. Some of the places that we put up the posters were:
A events board in the town centre,
Wallingford school,
Rags in Bags in wallingford,
The lamb arcade

Our jingle for the Henley to go on the radio / sound for advert
On the right of this paragraph you can see the lyrics to the jingle that jasper and I wrote for the Henley event. The jungle follows a very simple chord sequence as you can see on the piece of paper.
- Chord sequence C - G - Am - F |
Jasper put a bit of time into writing a short jingle for the radio, we have uploaded it it to YouTube so that you can hear. In the end we did not use the jingle on. However if we had of had more time then we could very well have tried to get it played on some local radio stations. The jingle was saying the message that there is live music in Henley so don't miss out, and that its for a good charity so donate.

Our press release
For our gig in Henley we got a press release done, for the show before it happened. Sent to a newspaper the information below on the right hand side and they took the information that we sent them and refined it and wrote up a small bit of writing in the newspaper encouraging people to go down and watch the show and donate money to the charity. The press release that we sent did have a lot more information in it than they put in the newspaper, but its up to the newspaper what they put in.
We also got in touch with some news papers and sent them some press releases as well as getting one of the people who work for the newspaper to come along to the gig and then do a write up both online and then in the newspaper about it.
