There are a lot of things that you have to take into account when you are preparing yourself for performing an extended program of music. I am going to have to think a lot about my voice and what I can do to make sure that it is as good as it can be. I am also going to think about my fingers and making sure I am ready to play because a few of my songs are very challenging for me to play on the guitar especially if I have clod hands or there is something wrong with one on my fingers or something like that. I am going to list below the things that I am oig to do before my performance.
P3. My Technical Preparations
There are a lot of things that I do for my technical preparation. In my view the most important thing that I do is warm up my voice. I am going to warm up my voice in a variety of different ways. Most of them are thing is that Alison has taught me. There are things that will help you if you do them enough they can improve you’re range and improve the overall quality of your voice. I am going or do exercises like singing arpeggios and also playing them on h guitar whilst I sing and getting higher up the neck by one fret each time. Once I have reached the top of my rang I will do the arpeggios going back down the neck because I have learned that it is a lot more affective if when you warm up your voice you also warm down. I think that this will be a very good idea because I will be warming up my vocals and I will be getting back used to using my fingers on the guitar and warming up my hands. I will hum the arpeggios and the scales as well as doing them whilst doing lip trills. I am also going to try one exercise that Alison taught me which I thought was very odd. This exercise requires you to lie on your back on the floor and sing. She told me the reasons why it is effective and they are simple. It is because when you are lying on your back the muscles required to sing like the muscles in your diaphragm are required to work harder when you are singing, so when you have finished the exercise and you stand u and sing normally you will find it a lot easier because your muscles will be very warmed up.
Also part of m technical preparations for my guitar playing I will concentrate very had on warming up the fingers on my right hand. I will try very hard to do this because I know from experience that I cannot finger pick when my right hand is cold and not warmed up. I will concentrate on this by playing a few guitar parts which involve finger picking I will also finger pick some scales and strum a few chords to get both my hands warmed up and my head in the right mindset for playing the songs.

M3. Explaining the process of my technical preparations
For my technical preparation there are a lot of things that I do. I begin with arpeggios. I begin by playing the arpeggio on the first fret and singing it at the same time. I find that when I start on the first fret it is very low in m singing range. I go up the guitar and up with my voice one semi-tone at a time (one fret a time). Once I reach the top of my range where I have to go into falsetto I begin to go back down the fret board back own the fret one. I then will do the arpeggios whilst incorporating some different techniques into them. I will do the arpeggios whilst humming instead of singing and then I will swap from humming them to doing hem whilst I’m doing lip trills because that vibrates you vocal chords and helps to warm them am very quick. I sometimes even to the lip trials and the humming and the singing of the arpeggios whilst I am lying on my back on the floor because that makes the muscles that are involved in singing work a lot harder and then when I stand up and sing like I would in a normal performance it will be a lot easier.

Technical Preparations for my Vocals
Singing Arpegios
The video below shows me demonstrating a part of my technical preparations for my voice. What I am doing in the video is playing and singing arpeggios starting on fret three and going all the way up to the top of my range which is around fret 14/15. At the top of my rage where I have to falsetto I stop and begin to go back down the fret board one semitone at a time. I am sure that this is a very affective peroration for my vocals because one I have done this I instantly feel like it is easier to sing and that my voice sounds and feels a bit more natural. I know that a lot of professional singers do this before and after shows to make sure that they sound as good as they possibly can. Some examples of singers that I know do this are Adele and Billy Joe from Green Day.
Lip Trills
In the video below I am doing a similar thing to the first video. I am still playing arpeggios on the guitar but instead of singing normally along with the arpeggios, I am doing lip trills. Singing lip trills is a big part in the technical preparations that I do for my voice. I was shown it by Alison and when I first did it did feel a lot easier to sing and my voice sounded a lot nicer in my view so since then I have added it to my vocal warm ups routine. Doing lip trills makes your vocal chords and the muscles that are required for singing in your through vibrate and that means that once you have finished doing the lip trills the muscles in your through will be a lot more relaxed and that is a very good thing if you are about to sing.

Technical Preparations for my Guitar Playing
As well as having technical preparations for my vocals before I sing, I also have technical preparations for my guitar playing witch I do before I play songs that are hard to play. For the 20 minute performance I am doing the most challenging part of my set is the fast finger picking parts. I have to warm up in order to play there because if I don’t and my hands are cold or just art ready to play them then I Know from experience that it is seriously difficult to play the finger picking parts. In the video you see my playing the complex picking part. I begin by playing it slowly so that I give my fingers a chance to actually play it so that I don’t get confused and start tripping up over my fingers or playing the wrong strings. I then speed up the riff. As you can see in the video I found it a bit too hard because I sped it up too fast too quickly. So I then slowed it down a touch and Kept playing it until I got it. I then played a little bit of the right hands part from the song ‘Drifting’ by Andy McKee. I find that this song is a very good song to warm up my hands with because I know it so well and when you are playing it both your hands are doing so much and it requires so much concentration, I find that it helps me to get into the right mindset for playing guitar.

D3. Evaluating the Processes of my Technical Preparations
I have only recently started warming up my voice before sing I have seen a difference in my voice from when I don’t warm up before I sing and when I do warm up before I sing. My vocal warm ups are very basic in comparison to some of the vocal warm up routines that I have been researching on the internet. I have been searching for ways in which I can improve my technical vocal warm ups so that all of my performances are as good as they possibly can be. One thing that I instantly saw was wrong with my technical vocal warm ups is that when I sing my arpeggios I sing them to the top of my chest voice and as soon as I break into falsetto I stop going up and I start going back down, semi-tone by semi-tone. I have now learned that I will never be able to improve my vocal range if I continue doing that warm up in the same way. It also means that I am not practicing my falsetto enough and there is no hope of improving my falsetto singing if I don’t ever practice it enough because everybody knows that ‘practice makes perfect’.
Through my research i have also found that I do not do enough to relax my body before I sing. I have even read that i should make sure my body is relaxed as is possible even before I sing my vocal warm ups. The most important areas that I should try and make sure are free of tension is the shoulders, face and tongue areas. I have also learnt that your posture is very imported when you sing. It is very beneficial to your vocals if you make sure your posture is as good as possible by standing on the balls of your feet and not on your heels. This will ensure that you have a straight spine and that is very good for your singing.
Through my research I have also found some ways to make my exercises with lip trills more affective and more beneficial to the overall sound of my voice. When I do my lip trills it will be a lot more affective is I start with shorter lip trills as opposed to going straight into singing arpeggios and scales. I should repeat the short trills 5 to 6 times and as I go along I should make the length of each trill a bit longer. I have also learned that they are a lot more affective if I do them and do not purse my lips because when you purse your lips that uses muscles and you want you be as loose as possible to ensure that as much muscles in your face an in your throat vibrate when you do them. I now see that my technical preparations for my voice are not very affective not that I have learn what affective warm ups for vocals are. I am going to add the tongue trill to my warm up because I have read a lot of positive thing about it and the affect it can have on your voice when done properly. To do the tongue trill it is very much like rolling your R’s. You flap your tongue against the roof of your mouth and that helps a lot to relax the muscles in and around the mouth. The tongue trills are especially affective when you do them with arpeggios and scales and breath in a lot of air before you do them.
The video below has showed me how to improve my technical preparations for vocals. It had also taught me a lot about how affective the exercises are and what they can do for your voice when done properly.

P3. Physical Preparations
There are a lot of things that I can do to help myself to be prepared physically. One of the most affective ones that I have come across is simply relaxing and not getting stressed about the gig. I find it a lot easier to make sure that I am able to relax if I know what I am doing before the gig so that I’m not worried that things are going to go wrong. I will also do things like breathing exercises and things like that to calm my nerves. I will also have to tune all of the guitars that I am using in my performance because I will probably have three or four guitars each different tunings because my set is made out of alternative tuned guitar songs.

M3 explain the processes of my Physical Preparations
To me the most important physical preparation I can do is make sure that I am relaxed. The reason for this is that I will perform at my best when I am relaxed and I am much less lightly to make any mistakes in my performance when I am relaxed. When I am stressed I will not be able to play and sing to my full potential. I think that the best way for me to relax is for me to lie down and listen to music. And another important factor which I will have to take into account if I want to be relaxed on the day of the performance is that i should get a early night the day before and make sure I get as good of a night sleep as possible so that I feel fresh and ready for the performance the next day. I also think that preparing my guitars and my musical gear is very important, not only because it means I won’t have to do it at the last minute but because it means I know in my head that all my gear is ready for the performance and I know that all of my guitars are tuned so I will find it a lot easier to relax and I will not be worrying about the performance. The tuning of the guitars for my set is one of the main physical preparations that I will have to make. The guitar tunings that I am using are CGCFGC, DGCFGC, EADGBE and BbFCGGC. This means that I am probably going to need 3 guitars for my performance. That brings on another physical preparation that I need to witch is finding two good acoustic guitars that I can borrow for the performance. I am going to ask some of the guitarist in my class and hopefully one or two of them will be kind enough to help me.

D3. Evaluate the Processes of my Phisical Preporations
The most important part of my physical preparation is preparing myself physically and making sure that I am as relaxed as possible. I do not know a lot about how to relax apart from the ways that I have relaxed all of my life. The ways that relax are things like watching TV and listening to music and forgetting about all the things that might be causing stress. I have researched some different types of relaxation techniques to help me to make sure that I am relaxed before the performance. One of the most affective relaxation techniques that the internet had to offer me are so controlled breathing techniques that have helped a lot of people when they are stressed or when they feel like there is too much going on in their life. The breathing techniques are things like, slow down your breathing and concentrate on it. This can be the easiest and the simplest way to calm yourself down. Another technique that I am considering using and adding to my physical preparation is Belly Breathing. This is when you put your hands on your stomach and when you breathe in you try to push away your hands and when you breathe out you try to make your hands go towards you. I hope that this technique will help me to relax so that I can perform to the best of my ability on the night of the performance.

P3. Other Preparations
The other preparation that I will take is things like making sure all of my instruments are in working order. I would do things like change the strings and make sure that all of my leads are working and if I am using my pedal board I will make sure that all of the pedals have battery’s
and i will make sure that all of the levels are right on them. I will also make sure that i have a tuner handy for the performance because I know from experience how awful it is playing in a performance with a out of tune guitar an d I am not going to let that happen again. It is the things like that witch if they went wrong would affect my performance a lot, and all I have to do in advance to prevent them is to be a bit organised and make sure I don’t forget them. I am also going to make sure that I know all of the lyrics for the sings that I am performing because it is very unprofessional to go on stage with a sheet of lyrics and it is even more unprofessional to go on stage and forget the lyrics.

M3. Explaining the Processes of my other Preparations
As a part of my other preparations for the performance I am going to change the strings on my Martin electro acoustic guitar. I am going to buy some string that are very heavy because I will be dropping them down to a very low tuning and when they are light stings they are useless because all they do is flap about and sound horrible. I have to drop the low E string down 4 semi-tones to the note C so I will need some very heavy strings in comparison the strings I’m used to playing with. I am also going make sure that i buy a tuner that clips onto the headstock of the guitar and works on vibrations because they are very accurate and having about of tune guitar would ruin my performance. I am in the prises of learning the lyrics to all of the songs at the moment. I am very happy that I know all of the lyrics to Pretty Scares because I wrote them but the other three songs I will have to listen to a lot over the cores of the next few weeks to ensure that I don’t go on stage and forget the lyrics.

D3 Evaluate the Processes of my Other Preparations
I think that all of the preparations that I have made in this section are very important to the overall running of the performance. I believe that I have dealt with all of the obstacles very well like buying heavy string to make sure the guitar doesn’t sound rubbish in low tunings and like buying a guitar tuner that runs on vibrations to ensure that my guitar is not out of tune during the performance and like listening to the songs as much as possible to make sure that I remember all of the lyrics. I think that there is some other things that I can do to make sure that I remember the lyrics and that i really have them in my head. These are things like writing them out on a piece of paper over a few times so that I really remember them. I will do that and I’m sure that it will work because it is very similar to a revision technique that I have used in the past witch dose work with.
